Decorating for nighttime backyard fun
May 01, 2009
Who says summer parties have to take place in the afternoon?
Thanks to glow-in-the-dark technology, a number of popular backyard games, such as bocce and Frisbee golf, can be played even after the sun goes down.
But don't just present a darkened backyard for your friendly, early-evening bocce tournament. Take advantage of the night sky and get creative with the party decorations.
Look for places you can either hang or place objects around the yard. Try candles on your porch or picnic table. You can also purchase special candles that double as insect repellant, if you happen to live in an area with a lot of mosquitoes.
As for the yard, hang some glow sticks, tied off with string, off of some trees or on your clothesline. By doing this, you can create more of a party atmosphere as well as marking out places in the yard to avoid (no one likes walking directly into a clothesline or tree).
Finally, for those who have a garage next to their yard, putting up glow-in-the-dark stars (or other images) can create an interesting illusion for you and your party guests.
