A party for a cleaner Earth
April 28, 2009
Who says picking up trash has to happen at the end of the party? What about during the event?
Celebrities and various reality television programs have made caring about the environment a very real and personal issue for many children and young adults. If your child is interested in helping the environment, throwing a green party may be a unique way to spend a summer weekend.
One idea is to find a city park that is in dire need of attention. By choosing a city park, parents can contact the local Parks and Recreation Department for a representative to speak to the kids about why keeping parks clean is good for the environment and the local community.
Since this will be a mobile event, party decorations wouldn't make much sense. However, creating personalized t-shirts for the children (in green of course) would be a good way to help the group stand out.
Remember not to preach to them and to provide little bits of information as the day goes on. Pointing out a wrapper from a fast-food restaurant may be a good way to remind the kids to always use a trash barrel when they're done with their food.
