Beam up a Star Trek party
May 21, 2009
Though it came out two weeks ago, it may be fair to say that Star Trek will be one of the blockbuster movies of the summer.
As some parents saw with last year's summer hit Iron Man, kids will be drawn to the big summer movie and may want to have a party theme celebrating the film.
To set the mood, send out party invitations shaped as the Star Trek logo that says the guest has been accepted to Starfleet Academy and that they have to report for duty.
For added fun, try re-arranging the living room or basement to mirror the bridge on the Starship Enterprise. This means a chair in the middle for the captain (it should ideally swivel), and two seats in front of that for the navigation and weapons officers.
Toward the back of the bridge is the communications officer, who should be outfitted with a phone or special device. Feel free to make up more positions so that everyone will have a place to sit.
Finally, install a red light bulb into a nearby lamp and when the time calls for it, flip the lights on and off for a red alert.
