Find the young artist with an art party
May 29, 2009
Once school's out, it's time to get messy.
Parents interested in providing a delightful afternoon for their young children and their friends should think about organizing an art party. Just be sure you have an area sectioned off to contain the mess.
If the weather is agreeable, it may be a good idea to host the event outdoors, which will help in the inevitable messy cleanup. However, having kids paint in the kitchen or basement is fine too. Just be sure there is a sink nearby for the kids to wash their hands when needed.
One of the most important elements of the art party is the time-honored smock, which can be as much fun to put on as it is to spend an afternoon painting. Look for old long-sleeve shirts that won't be used again and dress the kids in them with the buttons on their back. This will protect their clothing and serve as a canvas once the paint starts getting everywhere.
With the paint, be sure to use water-soluble products and ensure there is enough to go around. This type of party may work best with smaller groups.
