Something borrowed: The wedding dress
June 08, 2009
While some women continue to search in various stores for the perfect wedding dress, others are taking another cost-effective route.
According to the Wall Street Journal, many brides are sticking to a budget when considering the dress for their special day with some purchasing used ones from sellers they find online. Price has been a big issue for many brides.
But instead of getting a cheaper dress from a stranger, consider asking your family first. If you find one that fits, the vintage dress can spark a theme that can run throughout the wedding.
One idea is to ask around the bride's or groom's family for some appropriate jewelry to wear at the ceremony. Also, displaying any family heirlooms at the reception would be a nice way to tie in the old with the new.
Finally, find a way to communicate the story behind your wedding dress and vintage jewelry for your guests. This can be done through a laminated document that is hung on the wall or, for those who are more technologically skilled, by creating a blog with pictures and video.
