Playing Goodnight Moon at a slumber party
June 08, 2009
One of the most difficult things to do during a slumber party is to get your guests to say goodnight, particularly for younger children.
Instead of fighting it, turn the act of saying goodnight into a game, thanks to the classic 1947 children's book Goodnight Moon.
The story features a bunny saying goodnight to various objects within its room that include a telephone, a dollhouse and, finally, the moon.
Children at the slumber party can recreate this ritual by saying goodnight to things in the room where they are spending the night. One idea is to incorporate a stuffed bunny in the activity, allowing only the person holding the bunny to say goodnight to things.
This can be a very fun and engaging game, especially when the children start saying goodnight to the cheese or the dust particles on your television set.
However, it also acts as a signal that it's almost time to go to bed and that the lights will be out soon. If you can, try scheduling the slumber party on a weekend when the moon will be out on a clear night sky.
