Have some messy fun with a science party
June 16, 2009
Science parties are a way for young guests to play in a makeshift lab where explosions and fizzy sounds are part of the process.
To do this, have a couple of tables set up in an area that is both easy to clean and big enough to hold a small crowd.
Next, be sure there are enough protective goggles for everyone as well as smocks to keep them from getting too many stains on their clothes.
Of all the experiments available, be sure to save the Diet Coke and Mentos one for last, as it is almost always the most popular.
Purchase several 2 liter bottles of Diet Coke (it cannot be any other brand of diet soda) and several packs of Mentos candy. Construct a way to secure the bottle, either by surrounding it with rocks or by partly burying it in the ground.
Next take some paper and construct a funnel which will allow the Mentos to be delivered as quickly as possible into the bottle (you won't have much time). The soda eruption should happen soon after, followed by the unbridled glee of your guests.
