Some brides opting for a wedding at home
June 17, 2009
Instead of having a wedding reception in an elegant ballroom, some West Coast brides are looking at their family's property for a reception at home, according to the New York Times.
The trend even goes as far as the food, with appetizers consisting of picnic-inspired fare, though with a twist. It can't actually be like a picnic, since this is, after all, a wedding.
While the food can be in the form of hamburgers, hotdogs and even fries, presentation is key here. Think of unique shapes for all three, such as burgers cut in triangles or a hotdog into bite-sized portions.
As for wedding decorations, take stock of the natural surroundings at the family property where you decide to have your nuptials. In many cases, a couple of well-placed flowers and simple lace ribbons may be enough to convey a sort of elegant, but simple atmosphere.
For the tables, avoid the traditional red-and-white checkered tablecloth and opt for a solid color. It doesn't have to be white, but just make sure it coordinates with the rest of your at-home wedding theme.
