Host a True Blood viewing party
June 24, 2009
Those past the teenage Twilight drama may prefer to get their vampire fix by watching the HBO series, True Blood.
Since the new series is still fairly new (the second season just started), this show could be a great excuse to bring together friends to host a viewing party for the weekly episodes. Here are some tips on how to make your event memorable.
True Blood is set in the South, so be sure to serve Southern snacks. Biscuits are a staple, but can be bland alone so try making mini pulled pork biscuit sliders - easy if you buy premade biscuits - with plenty of barbecue sauce and pickles.
Barbecue-flavored popcorn is a lighter side nibble that goes well with mini hot dogs, cheese and, of course, red wine. Grilled barbecue shrimp with a deep red cocktail sauce keeps with the vampire theme.
For decorations, throw some red scarves over exposed lamps. Vampires hate the light and this also gives the room a dusky feel, perfect for TV watching.
If your guests don't drink wine, make old-fashioned blueberry sodas with some berry syrup poured over crushed ice to make them seem blood-like.
