Make your Bastille Day party simply magnifique
June 30, 2009
Celebrating 4th of July is so last year which means in 2009, the hot, young and trendy are tapping into their French sides to celebrate Bastille Day on July 14th. Start a new tradition and host your own party.
Bastille Day commemorates the storming of Paris' Bastile prison and the modern country coming into its own. While we don't suggest attacking your local penitentiary, here are some useful party-planning tips.
Nothing screams France like some fresh croissants and these tasty pastries are perfect for (savory or sweet snack. Splurge on some top-notch jam, brie and ham and allow guests to make up their own sandwiches. Remember fresh tomato and lettuce for a refreshing crunch.
The French are known for excellent pates and wine. To keep costs low, challenge guests to a cookoff where everyone has to bring their own homemade pate. Provide French wines and crackers to scoop up the snacks.
For those who are not fans of classical music, expand your iTunes library and download tunes by French pop masters Air or the cheekily upbeat electo-stylings of The Teenagers. Check out French First Lady Carla Bruni's tunes too.
Finally, after a brilliant outdoor eating and drinking afternoon, settle down guests to watch Amelie or Jules et Jim to celebrate remarkable French cinema.
