Get your game on this July

Some find it easier talking to the wall than to a partner immersed in his or her video games. However, everyone has different hobbies and you can show your support for their passion this July 7th – National Video Game Day.

Host a party or gaming tournament for players and perhaps you can even catch their excitement too. Here are some tips to get you started.

For those mystified by game systems, ask your player which games he or she prefers and which are the best for an evening of competition. Set a time period for serious competition and then a more social game playing session afterwards.

Games such as Rock Band make everyone feel relaxed and a little silly, but it can be a great tool to bring friends together.

Serve game-themed cocktails for non-playing guests to get them in the spirit. For example, you might want to make White Russians for a bowling tournament, as a nod to The Big Lebowski, or St. Germaine or absinthe-based beverages for game like Zelda or Final Fantasy that deal with woodsy worlds in another dimension.

Finally, provide easy snacks like nuts, pretzels or pop corn for serious gamers, while fun foods like like nachos, bruschetta, wings or quesadillas can be served after play.
