Raining? Make a zoo at home
July 20, 2009
Rainy weekends during the summer can be tough for young children to bear, which means parents may want to stock up on ideas to keep their little ones entertained. If not, they may be subject to hearing "I'm bored" multiple times on a Sunday afternoon.
One idea is to use the stuffed animals they already have and create a makeshift zoo. Section off parts of the living room, dining room and maybe even the bathroom for certain animals to be housed in.
This can also be a sneaky way to help the kids clean up portions of the house.
Once the animals are chosen, take out some construction paper and help your child write down the animal's name, where he or she came from and fun fact about them.
And don't limit the participants in the zoo. Since toys are involved, anything from a racecar to a Transformer is fair game to be included.
For some added fun, have your child walk around their new zoo and take a video of their explanation of each toy. Afterwards you can edit the video on the computer, which will only add to the excitement despite the stormy day outside.
