Wedding shower party for couples emerging as trend
July 21, 2009
Traditionally, brides-to-be are surprised by their relatives and friends with a bridal shower, an event filled with games and presents from the gift registry.
But for some couples, that celebration is not for them and would rather opt for something a bit more laid-back and casual (bridal showers can be a dress-up event).
Instead, many are opting for a couple's shower and taking the festivities outside for a simple barbeque or backyard picnic.
This is a way for some families to celebrate the engaged couple in a more inviting way that isn't anchored by games where guests are forced to come up with funny future baby names.
With a couple of tiki torches, a personalized banner hanging on the side of the house or garage and colorful streamers, soon-to-be husbands and wives are finding the gathering to be refreshing and a welcome break from the wedding planning.
As for food, keep it simple with hamburgers, hotdogs (as well as vegetarian substitutes) and salad.
Of course, this kind of party works best with the sun and warmer temperatures.
