Gather the girls for a View party

If you have friends who are like Barbara, Whoopi and Joy from the daytime talk show the View, it may be a good excuse to gather everyone together for a lively conversation.

For those who don't know about the show, it features five professional women from different backgrounds who get together and talk about some of the hot-button issues of the week.

Recently, the women of the View discussed whether or not Paula Abdul would be leaving American Idol. However, they have also been known to have heated discussions over the Iraq war.

To throw a personal View party, be sure to invite opinionated people to (excuse the pun) the table. As host, it may be good idea to play moderator, someone to anchor the group in certain topics and to recognize when to change the conversation.

Consider personalizing coffee mugs either with the names of your friends or with the first names of the women on the View as a joke.

As for food and refreshments, stick to tea or coffee and perhaps some cheesecake. And be sure the conversations remain civil, but interesting.
