Do Sweet 16s still have to be super?
April 21, 2009
For a while, MTV may have single-handedly driven some parents crazy with its show My Super Sweet 16, which depicted young women getting the birthday party of their dreams that sometimes included celebrity acts and extravagant dresses.
But is that still the case?
With the recession, a kind of super sweet 16 party may be seen as unnecessary. Thankfully, a new trend appears to be emerging that seems to be focused on using one's sweet 16 party to raise awareness for a certain cause.
Some forward-thinking teenagers (shocking, but they do exist) have used their 16th birthday party as a way to show how easy it can be to throw a party that is environmentally friendly by using reusable silverware and recycled party decorations.
For others, they still may want a typical sweet 16 party, but not anything too crazy. Think of renting a karaoke machine and turn the party into a chance for your daughter and her friends to sing their favorite songs at the top of their lungs. Parents may want to get some earplugs as well and warn the neighbors.
