Get chilly on National Creamsicle Day
August 06, 2009
Summer's at its peak and one great way to cool off is to have a tasty frozen treat. If you didn't already know, August 15 is National Creamsicle Day and to celebrate, kids should try their hand at making these delicious desserts.
Orange creamsicles are one popular flavor, but the fruit can be substituted for another distinctive fruit such as strawberry or blueberry. Apples, pears and grapes have more delicate tastes that may not shine through the thicker yoghurt or ice cream.
First, pick your fruit and gather together the necessary ingredients that include ice cream or frozen yoghurt, milk and juice. If using fresh strawberries or blueberries, they will have to be blended in to the milk and ice cream mixture.
Popsicle kits can be bought from may retail stores at a relatively low cost. If you'd rather make smoothies, then all you need are some old-fashioned soda glasses and bendy straws.
There are plenty of recipes available for both creamsicle forms online and in cookbooks. If you want to gather together the adults for your own creamsicle celebration, there are also a plethora of weird and wonderful flavors to try, such as papaya or pomegranate. You can even try a creamsicle cocktail for big kids only!
