Backyard football challenge
August 31, 2009
Sometimes it's more fun to play a game instead of watching professionals do it on television.
This may be the case with some football fanatics as the regular season approaches. While many households are opening the doors to host an NFL-watching party, why not do something different that is more active and allows people to emulate some of their favorite players in the pros.
A backyard football challenge can do all of that and create a fun atmosphere for casual to die-hard fans. First, get an official league football, which can be purchased at almost any sporting goods store.
Next, set up various challenges in the backyard. A quarterback challenge can include a party guest throwing a football at specific targets. For those who have this gathering later in the evening, consider hanging glow sticks from tree branches as the targets to hit, as they will be easier to spot.
In terms of rushing the football, create a mini obstacle course that forces the player to "juke" (shift quickly to the left and right) around certain objects. Trash cans and picnic benches should do the trick. Be sure to time the contestants.
Prizes can vary from a home-made trophy to gift cards that are placed in a party favor bag.
