Wedding trend: Having a best woman
September 02, 2009
In the past, some grooms agonized over their choice for a best man, mainly because their best friend was of the wrong gender.
However, many grooms, as well as brides, are bucking the traditional gender-specific roles and opting to choose their best friend for the job. This has led to some wedding programs to state "Man of Honor" or "Best Woman."
Those who do choose to go with this wedding trend should be sure to explain it to family members and friends, particularly those who may feel a little uncomfortable at first at the idea.
In terms of attire, clearly the Best Woman shouldn't wear a tuxedo, but she shouldn't be in a completely different color either. Besides matching in color, consider having all members of the wedding party linked with the same color flower.
The same goes for a Man of Honor who should wear either a bow tie or a vest that matches the color of the bridesmaids.
This idea can also be incorporated into the rest of the bridal party. In fact, having a mixture of men and women on either side will help a couple's wedding stand out.
