Celebrate the return of a diva
September 15, 2009
If Whitney Houston's appearance on Oprah today leaves you longing to be a high-maintenance maven, a Whitney-party can help you resurrect the 80s icon's glory days.
Adorn your house with diva décor, such as feather boas and rhinestone-crusted photo frames (or rhinestone-crusted anything, for that matter).
Serve your guests beverages out of plastic champagne flutes and provide diva delights like a shrimp cocktails or ornately arranged cheese plates.
Encourage your guests to channel their inner Maya Rudolph and dress like their favorite Whitney. From leg warmers and leotards with big hair or a sleek wig with a giant fur coat, leave nothing out of bounds.
Require everyone to bring the picture they used for inspiration and pick up small novelty trophies and award a "Grammy" for the most authentic and outrageous impostors.
To give your guests a taste of Ms. Houston's new album, use a game of musical chairs to play your favorites. Once everyone has heard her new jams, revert back to the classics and hold a karaoke contest. Make sure you lock up your finest glassware, though, as trying to hit Whitney's signature high notes could prove dangerous.
