Dig up the garden in a delicious way
September 28, 2009
Fall means it's time to enjoy the last of the fruits of your labor, but cold weather doesn't mean you have to retire your green thumb. Say goodbye to your garden by hosting a home harvest party.
Decorate gardening gloves for the kids beforehand. Write their names in their favorite colors to get them excited about helping outside. You might also make them their own set of tools to match.
Show everyone from where the fresh veggies they've been enjoying all summer have been coming. Dig everything up and bring it inside for washing and prep.
Hold a contest to see who can come up with the most creative recipe idea using the ingredients you have. Once the kids have put their ideas to paper, encourage them to work together to come up with a hybrid idea. Design menus for the family's hard-earned dinner.
After everyone has enjoyed the community-made meal, reward the kids with their own potted plants to nurture over the winter. Write their names on the pots with paint, but let them finish the decorating to begin the nurturing process.
