Newspaper mummy adds fun to a Halloween bash
October 12, 2009
A mummy can be the ultimate party decoration - use it to add ambiance at your Halloween bash or hide it in unexpected places, like a bathroom or coat closet, to give guests a fright.
A cheap, easy and sustainable way to make a mummy is to collect a few weeks worth of old newspaper and crumple sheets into balls. Then stuff the newspaper into an old sweatshirt and sweatpants (white is best, but whatever color you have will work). When the clothes are full enough too look like a body, completely cover in white toilet paper and secure with masking tape. (Try to wrap the body of the mummy as neatly as possible in layered rows to create a really authentic effect.)
For the head of the mummy, use a white balloon for shape and cover that in toilet paper as well. Draw eyes on with a permanent marker or glue a pair of fake eyes on for a more realistic (and creepy) look. Tape the head securely onto the top of the sweatshirt.
Hang your mummy on the wall or prop it up on a couch. Leave a Polaroid camera around so that guests can take snapshots with your mummy and take the pictures home as party favors.
