Celebrate Veterans Day with a red white and blue party

November 11 marks Veterans Day, a day intended to honor those who have served in the American military services.
If you know a veteran, the holiday creates the perfect opportunity to surprise them with an impromptu party. If not, it's still a great day to be patriotic and get together with some friends.
First, hang up a few American flags as party decorations.
For the perfect kick-off to your Veterans Day festivities, bake red, white and blue cup cakes. Use vanilla-flavored batter, and divide the mix into three portions. Leave one section plain (white), add blue food coloring to one portion and add red to the last. Do the same with vanilla frosting, and invite your guests to decorate their cupcakes.
For ambitious bakers, a large sheet cake could be the perfect canvas to frost an American flag.
Test your guests' history knowledge by hosting a U.S. trivia game. Prepare questions about the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World War I and World War II before the party starts. Then divide guests into teams and have them compete for prizes.
Finish off the day by watching a classic war movie like Saving Private Ryan.
