How to pick the perfect gift
December 01, 2009
Everyone has someone on their list that's difficult to buy for. Whether they're a Scrooge or just don't like asking for specific items, it can be frustrating to brainstorm gift ideas for certain friends and family members.
One way to make sure that you get them something they'll like is by keeping a running list throughout the year. If you see something you know they'd appreciate, make a note of it so that you have a list of items at your disposal when December roles around.
Think about what your hard-to-gift person is passionate about. Do they love beer? Maybe a home brewing kit is the perfect gift. If they love movies, a Netflix membership (or membership upgrade) is a thoughtful gesture. Friends who are into fitness would appreciate a few sessions with a personal trainer, and anyone obsessed with their iPhone might like a gift certificate for more applications.
Most friends will appreciate a great bottle of wine or scotch, and chocolate-lovers are never disappointed with a box of truffles.
Of course, some people are just impossible to satisfy. Include a gift receipt with your purchase, and let them know that there are no hard feelings if they choose to exchange the item.
