Host an ugly Christmas sweater party
December 02, 2009
The holidays are a great time to reconnect with friends and family, but traditional Christmas parties can become a little rote. If you're bored with hot chocolate and jingle bells, consider hosting a more creatively themed Christmas party to put some cheer back in your holiday season.
An ugly Christmas sweater party is a great idea. Most people have shamefully hideous holiday sweaters and sweatshirts secreted away. Host a party where everyone can wear their Rudolph apparel with pride, and hand out prizes to the partygoer with the ugliest ensemble. (Any shirt that lights up or includes glitter embellishments deserves at least an honorable mention.)
Another way to prevent guests from falling into an eggnog-induced coma is by requesting they come to your party in full-out costumes. To make everyone think outside the box, ban Santa Clause and elves. Jack Skellington, Rudolph and Santa Mouse, however, are all perfectly acceptable.
Leave Polaroid cameras lying around, and let guests snap some pictures of the festivities. They can even take home their favorite shots as party favors.
