Make your Christmas green this year
December 04, 2009
However, you don't have to sacrifice your holiday traditions to create a green holiday season, just be mindful of your actions and judicious in your choices. For example, as painful as it might feel, it could save some gas if you aim to get all of your holiday shopping done in one fell swoop rather than taking several small trips all over town.
You could also be more careful about your gift choices. Don't buy items that your friends and family don't really want or need just to fill up space under the tree. Select a few specific things that you know they'll appreciate.
Purchase recycled wrapping paper, or use newspaper or fabric to wrap gifts up in. You can also purchase reusable gift bags that will make wrapping easier and can be used for years to come.
If youre planning a holiday party, try not to overestimate the amount of food that you'll need, and use real plates and cloth napkins instead of the disposable versions.
