Stars turn up at Christie's to support Save the Children (and score some bling)
December 11, 2009
Ricky Martin, Morgan Fairchild and Jessica Lange were among the big names that turned out to attend Christie's latest auction which featured a slew of vintage Bulgari jewels. The best part? All of the proceeds from the event went to benefit the Save the Children Foundation.
Guests sipped champagne and perused the elegant selections before the bidding began. "I've got a lot of vintage jewelry - like, tacky costume jewelry," actress Rose Byrne told Style.com. "This is a different league."(We agree.)
The website reports that Martin showed up at the event already adorned in the jeweler's handiwork he was sporting a silver Bulgari ring that benefits the Save the Children Foundation's Rewrite the Future campaign.
The cause might be close to the singer's heart. Last year Martin became the proud father of two twin boys.
Highlights of the collection include a diamond Lucea choker that went for $270,000 and a diamond bib necklace that fetched $350,000 on the block. Is that where the rich and famous do their Christmas shopping?
After the event, guests were invited to the after-party at the Monkey Bar, where it was announced that the event had raised, in total, $1,546,500 for the worthy cause.
