Derek Jeter and Will Forte lend their names to Make a Difference-NYC
December 16, 2009
Who says New Yorkers are cold? (Other than Red Socks Sox fans?) According to CNN.com, residents of the Big Apple have plenty of holiday spirit and good will toward their fellow man. (not sure if you can attribute that to CNN) Yesterday, more than 100 of the city's finest gathered together at the Aspen Social Club to help children in need.
The night club offered free entry and an open bar to partygoers who came prepared with a wrapped present and a $20 donation to Make a Difference-NYC, an non-profit organization that works to provide needy children in New York with Christmas presents.
Once inside the nightclub, guests could peruse the selection of items that were up for silent auction, and bid on anything that caught their eye.
Derek Jeter offered a signed baseball to be auctioned off at the event, and Saturday Night Live cast member Will Forte served as the celebrity host, according to the website.
This year was the tenth annual party for the charity, which was started by Michael Gallegos, a former nightclub promoter. Gallegos himself grew up homeless, and the plight of needy children is close to the businessman's heart.
"I want the kids who receive the toys to get another day of childhood. I want the toy to show them that there is hope and that somebody cares about them," Gallegos told the news source.
