Host a golf party to celebrate the return of spring
February 18, 2010
For those who live in cold climates, the arrival of spring, which is just around the corner, offers the opportunity to get back to your favorite outdoor activities. For golfers, who often pine for the links when the snow begins to pile up, there are few things sweeter than seeing the green grass poke through the snow or ice covering their favorite golf course.
Of course, those who live in warmer parts of the country can practice their swing anytime they want!
To celebrate the return of golf season, why not host a golf party? Send out invitations to all of the people that you usually shoot a round with, and then stock up on golf decorations to make your party fun and festive.
Don't be afraid to go a little over the top when it comes to party decorations and golf party supplies for this one - it's alright to be ironic about your golf obsession!
Pick up an all-in-one golf party decorating kit, which includes vertical streamers and hanging golf balls to serve as wall decorations that will showcase any food or beverages that you choose to supply.
Serve snacks for the turn!
When it comes to food for your golf party, you can opt for casual barbecue fare, or fancy and formal dishes.
If you decide to go the casual route, create a kitschy menu and offer foods that your guests might grab around the turn sandwiches and chips, for example, and barbecue side dishes like pasta salad and coleslaw. Not only will all of the golfers get the reference, but it will be a cinch to prepare, and could serve as the first barbecue of the season.
If you decide to serve a meal more appropriate for the clubhouse than for the ninth hole, offer your delectable dishes buffet-style, so that friends can sample a little bit of each of your delicious offerings as they mingle with their fellow golfers.
However you decide to play the main course, make sure that you have a golf cake for dessert. A kooky cake with plenty of green frosting is the perfect way to top off your delicious meal and celebrate the start of the season.
Attempt to make one yourself, or just order one from a nearby bakery.
Suggest a round of night golf
As the party winds down, hand out golf-related party favors to your guests to prepare them for the coming season.
If you and yours enjoy night golf, which is a light-hearted way to play the sometimes-frustrating sport, night golf supplies are the perfect parting gift.
Look for golf balls that glow in the dark, glow sticks, cup rings that glow (to illuminate the holes) and LED flashing pens so that you can still keep score.
If you have open space in your yard, why not suggest that you and your guests work on their swing for a bit as you enjoy the warm spring night?
