Banish the winter blues with a disco party
February 19, 2010
The days are getting longer and the air has a hint of spring in it. If you're looking for a fun way to welcome the return of the warm weather, disco parties are a fun and amusing way to gather all of your friends together.
To make sure that everyone shows up in disco-worthy attire, send out disco party invitations to everyone on your guest list. Throw some sequins or glitter into the envelop before sealing it, so that everyone knows exactly what they're in for!
Create a groovy party space
Obviously, disco parties require some seriously '70s disco decorations.
First and foremost, set up a few disco balls on the ceiling. Without a disco ball, you have no disco party.
Then, look for other disco party supplies like disco dancer beverage
napkins, disco fever paper plates, and disco dancer luncheon napkins.
Put up metallic-fringed curtains in all of your door ways, and leave disco light ups like glow sticks, LED sunglasses and peace sigh LED necklaces around for guests to put on or discard as they go along.
Provide some fun and crazy costume pieces, like giant neon-colored wigs or love beads at the door for partygoers. (Don't forget to snap some pictures of your friends all decked out!)
Also keep your eyes peeled for anything that lights up or sparkles - if it's a little over-the-top, it's probably perfect for this event.
Host a costume contest
To take advantage of the fact that your friends are wearing some crazy outfits, you should absolutely have a disco party costume contest!
Award special points to anyone who arrived as a specific '70s icon, like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, Elton John in full-on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road regalia, Shaft, or girls who come dresses as the Charlie's Angels.
Hand out fun and kitschy party favors to the winners, like retro lunch boxes or Lite Brites.
Have an amazing playlist ready to go
Make sure to have tunes ready to kick off the dance portion of your disco party. Classics, like the Bee Gees and Donna Summers are mandatory! Include other popular hits from the era as well. However, don't feel like youre relegated to disco hits; feel-good song that makes your friends want to get up and dance the night away will be perfect for your disco bash.
