Get ready for beach weather with a luau party
April 27, 2010
The sun has been beaming, and the outdoors is calling our name. We've been cooped up inside for far too long, and most of us are longing to get some sunshine.
Still, while the spring brings fantastic weather and amazing opportunities to experience our natural surroundings, it's hardly beach weather at the moment. Those who long to slap on some suntan lotion and don a pair of sunglasses have just one option available to them - throwing a luau party!
Luau parties are fun and exciting ways to get your friends together and ease into the summer. We may not be able to sip tasty margaritas while sitting by the ocean, but we can try to mimic the scene at our own homes.
Throwing a luau party doesn't take much work, but it requires some preparation. Make sure you plan accordingly so your pals can have a ball.
For starters, pick out luau invitations. These should be creative and fun, and remind your guests that they can dig their flip flops out of the back of their closets a month early for your shindig.
When choosing luau invitations, make sure they include something festive on them. Scenes with beaches or palm trees will be perfect to mark the occasion. Remember, you want to get everyone excited.
Be Daring: Why not take a coconut, drain the milk and slip the invitation inside? Instead of mailing it, if your guests are close by, drop it by their front door. Such a creative invitation will get them excited for the actual affair.
Next, make sure to stock up on luau party supplies. These items can include everything from hula skirts to paper cups, plates and utensils that have a festive, summer look to them.
Be Daring: Purchase a bunch of life-sized palm trees and place them around the event space. Your guests will go crazy for them! Also, never forget the king of the beach - Jimmy Buffet. If you can find an enlarged poster of him and hang it up, it's guaranteed to be a hit.
Finally, a necessity for throwing a luau party is purchasing a bunch of luau decorations. These are absolutely vital when planning a bash - without them, your event may be in danger of seeming drab.
For starters, go with a tiki theme. Banners and streamers that have a tiki face adorned on them will let your guests feel like celebrating in Hawaii.
Be Daring: Why not purchase an ice luge in the shape of a pig? The scene will evoke sentiments of a luau roast, and it will also keep drinks cool.
Luau parties are fun and exciting ways to kick back with your friends and have a blast. Put on a bunch of leis, grab a cold corona and relax!
