Sink a three-pointer with a basketball themed party
November 03, 2010
The basketball season is underway which means fans are starting to organizing viewing parties and watch their favorite teams tip-off. You too can join in on the action and host your very own basketball party, but there are a few things you'll need to pick up before having your friends over to enjoy some hoops.
Basketball fans will have their hands full for the next few months as both professional and college basketball will be occupying minds and television sets across the country. One can get in on the action by having friends over to enjoy a game or two while creating a fun atmosphere that consists of more than just some pizza and a big screen television.
First, one should decide when they want to host the event. Try selecting a big game between two rival teams. We may be a few months away from any championship games but you could always start planning a blowout of epic proportions for that big game. Once you've decided on a date, start sending out invitations to your best buddies and friends to come and celebrate. There are plenty of invites with a basketball theme to them, so you'll have no problem finding one that features a basketball or hoop.
Food will be an essential part of this party, and there are a few ways in which one can create a fun spread without it being too complicated. If you really want to make this an awesome party you may want to suggest a potluck style affair. Ask your friends to bring one item, something usually found at sport themed parties, and you'll have plenty to choose from. Staples like pizza and chips are to be expected, but don't forget desserts like cookies and pie. You can even find some decorated like a basketball. But if you're going to have all of this food on hand make sure to have plenty of paper goods like plates, napkins and cups so that your guests aren't eating off of the floor.
As for decorations, if you have a favorite team why not use their colors as inspiration? Get plenty of balloons and streamers in those shades and turn your place into a gymnasium! It'll feel like you're back in high school at a pep rally rooting for the home team as they gear up for a big game against their arch rival. Hang a large banner welcoming everyone to your fiesta, and you can even place cool basketball centerpieces on tables that resemble championship trophies.
Of course with all of the excitement surrounding the party and the game one may forget to actually mingle with their guests. Keep them entertained, make sure their plate is full and cup is never empty. Those are signs of a good host, and they'll surely remember a great basketball party.
