Cinco De Mayo 2011
April 13, 2011
It’s Cinco de Mayo, which means it’s time to throw a fiesta. Grab a margarita and a sombrero and get to planning!
Let your guests know your party is going to be hot, hot, hot by sending personalized chili pepper or fiesta sun invites. If the Tequila is going to be flowing like water, you should definitely go with the custom margarita invitations. Add some spice by sprinkling a little confetti in each envelope.
It’s May, so hopefully the weather is warming up wherever you are. This means you can finally throw an outdoor party again! However, if it does happen to be too windy or raining on the night of your party, we also have all the fixings to throw a fabulous indoor bash.
If your party is indoors…
Bring the feel of Mexico to your home by applying a 40 foot desert flora scene setter and cactus add ons or cutouts to your walls. If you’re going for a 3D look, use an inflatable cactus, hanging palm trees and a sombrero tissue decoration.
For ambiance and light, string margarita or cactus & boots electric light sets throughout your party room. Coordinate your lights with matching ceiling décor like fiesta lanterns, chili pepper ceiling decorations and sombrero danglers. Still lacking the colorful hues of Mexico? Hang the ever popular flower danglers from your ceiling or doorway, and be sure to drape multi color fringe garland throughout your entire house.
If your party is outdoors…
Wrap your deck or patio in basic silk flower fringe or neon flower fringe. Clean up outside is a cinch, which means you shouldn’t feel bad scattering metallic fiesta confetti mix all over your patio and yard. Most likely your guests will be traveling in and out of your house, so make it fun for them by hanging a silk flower door curtain in the doorway.
If your party extends into the wee hours of the night, you’re going to need outdoor lighting. Start with umbrella lighting, which comes with eight strands of lights to place on the arms of your outdoor umbrella. Line fiesta or palm tree luminary bags along your walk way and make sure to use LED tea lights for safety; open flames and margaritas do not mix well! Tie Lumi-Loon balloons around chairs and door handles for décor and a light show! We also have a variety of festive fiesta balloons like the margarita glass, dancing cowboy boots or metallic sombrero.
Lastly, hang a personalized Cinco de Mayo or Fiesta banner in your window.
Drinks and Dining
This is one party where you’ll need to have two separate areas for the food and for the beverages. Create a “tiki bar” outside where the drinks will be served. Transform an umbrella into a tiki pole by covering it with a raffia-like umbrella cover. Wrap the base of your bar in a grass table skirt for a tropical feeling. On the top of your bar, place tiki table leaves and of course, drinkware!
Have a variety of drinkware such as, 16 oz. fiesta stripes cups, L.E.D. margarita glasses, coconut cups (complete with a flower straw) and pineapple drink cups.
Choose from a variety of playful beverage napkins that read “hot, hot, hot!”, “party like a piñata and get smashed!”, or “take life with a grain of salt, a wedge of lime and a shot of tequila!” Don’t forget the sombrero coasters, toucan straws and cocktail parasols.
In case your tiki bar gets too crowded, have inflatable sombrero coolers and palm tree coolers scattered throughout the party!
Adorn your food table with a solid red table cover and a fiesta table runner. Place stacks of fiesta brights plates and lunch napkins along with jewel tone cocktail forks at one end of your table. Set out a few Costa del Sol chip and dip bowls and three section dishes full of tortilla chips, salsa, guacamole, bean dip, fruits and veggies.
Allow your guests to snack on the food throughout the party, but make sure to designate a few seating areas specifically for eating.
You have a few options for entertainment at your fiesta party. No matter what you decide to do be sure to have the fiesta staples: Costa del Sol CD, sombreros and maracas. From there, you can choose a variety of these party games.
Have a piñata or two hanging from a tree outside. We have everything from a sombrero to a bull piñata. If this is an adults-only party, fill the piñata with tiny bottles of tequila. If there are children present, it’s best to stick with candy.
How low can you go? Test your friends’ flexibility with the limbo light up game.
Make your fiesta a costume party and have your amigos dress up as a taco, a tequila bottle or a Latin dancer.
