PGA Tourney, The Masters, name alone sets it apart.
April 04, 2011
For anyone who ever picked up a golf club with any serious intent about the game, donning the fabled Green Jacket is truly the greatest achievement.
The 2011 Masters Tournament, held in Augusta, Georgia, is set to get underway today.
Every sport has its great championship. From the Super Bowl to the Men's NCAA Tournament (with the final game tonight featuring Connecticut vs Butler) each sport has its own top of the top.
For the PGA and golf as a whole, The Masters is exceptional. There are countless other golf tournaments played throughout the year, but none carry the iconic recognition of the Masters. Part of this is attributed to the Green Jacket sported by only those who have ever won this great event. But this tournament set itself apart right off the bat in with just its name.
'The Masters'? That alone puts this in another category of championship. Certainly up there with Super Bowl. The very name of this golf tournament implies that the winner has reached another echelon of skill compared to the rest of the field.
And the course itself is no walk in the park. With tweaks and changes to the layout happening on a yearly basis, the course at Augusta is an ever changing challenge for all who come to take it on.
The Masters tournament will be covered on CBS again this year. Check local listings for coverage times in your area.
