Grammys to Drop 31 Categories
April 07, 2011
Fans and music lovers every where, rejoice? Maybe it's not time for that, but at least it's a step in the right direction.
The Grammy Awards are getting a makeover to the tune of 31-less categories for next year's show.
Don't worry, that still leaves 78-categories for musicians to win in.
Perhaps the biggest change comes in an ultra modern move (which could have been made decades ago) where single-sex categories will be abolished. No more will there be a 'best female' or 'best male' anything. It'll just be 'best _______'.
In a similar move, there will no longer be any 'best solo' or 'best group' efforts. Solo artists and groups alike will be pitted against eachother in their respective categories.
The 'Hard Rock' and 'Metal' categories have been merged, which to this layman seems like a no-brainer.
And, alas, the instrumental track catgories have been thrown to the wind, not likely to return. I'm thinking the fans weren't tuning in for that one.
So, do you like the changes that have been made?
