Top 10 New Year's Eve 2012 Destinations
December 13, 2011
An entirely new year is just over 3 weeks away. To celebrate the arrival of 2012, a lot of people won't just be throwing a party or even attending one their friends throw. For many people, New Year's Eve 2012 will be all about the destination.
When you have the entire United States to choose from (and technically the world), it can be pretty hard to narrow down the one and only place you want to celebrate New Year's Eve. But if you have to make a choice state side, we've got a list to give you an idea of just what you can expect from the Top 10 New Year's Eve 2012 Destinations.
10. Greenville, SC
This may not be topping many people's lists, but it does rank highly in Google searches about New Year's Eve
which is proof enough for me that the people of Greenville are looking forward to celebrating as much as the people on New York City.
As it is, if you are visiting this lovely city for New Year's Eve 2012, you can pretty much stop in at any restaurant or hotel to find a party in full swing. The Embassy Suites will be doing a New Orleans style party and the Hilton will have the band Jump Street.
Special packages and deals are being offered, so make your plans in advance to take advantage of them before it's too late.
9. Austin, TX
Next on our most Google searched list is the city of Austin, Texas. This may have a lot to do with their recent event creation: Austin's New Year (ANY).
Just last year, ANY debuted promoting a New Year's Eve that is family friendly, located in the heart of downtown, and a non-alcohol event. Hosting over 10,000 in it's first year, ANY is setting out to be bigger and better for 2012.
The event features live music and performances along with artist displays and food from local vendors.
8. Portland, OR
The west coast is representing! Well, the north-west coast that is. Never judge a book by it's cover. Portland, OR has a lot going on for New Years. So much so that I can't even start to list it all here. You'll want to visit PortlandNeighborhood.com
to really see what all is happening. To whet your appetite, here's just a taste: Bossanova Ballroom hosts the Shanghai Nights band, The Hilton has the 20th annual Champagne Ball (dance in 3 individually themed ball rooms), Liquid Products hosts their event at Urban Studio, and the 11th annual BarFly Bus will make the rounds for those of you who love to hop.
A list of safe traveling alternatives is also available on the site.
7. San Diego, CA
Now for the real west coast representation. This may be the biggest city yet on our countdown, and it shows. You'll have to check out SanDiego.com
to really get a grasp on all there is to do.
Most notably, there are events on the water. Mini-cruises and yacht trips are all the rage when you've got the wonderful California coast at your disposal. The New Years Yacht Party 2012 will see 1000 passengers board the largest private charter yacht in southern california. And the New Year's Eve Dinner Cruise is a time tested event which puts you on the Flagship of the event's fleet.
There are also a lot of beach front events to choose from. If you are visiting San Diego for New Year's you'll want to be sure to choose one of these specialty options. Being in the club is fine, but yachts and beach front parties don't happen all over the U.S..
6. Nashville, TN
There's not going to be a lot of parties like this one. Break out your finest boots and tie your bolo on straight, because when you have a country New Year's, you had better look your best.
Like the other cities on our countdown, Nashville has a lot to offer. In Music City, it's all about the location. VisitMusicCity.com
has the full break down for you, but here are the highlights: @ 1st and Broadway you can see the Official Music City New Year's Eve Bash on Broadway with headliners Lynard Skynyrd, the Ryman Auditorium will host the Grand Ole Opry, And the Adventure Science Center will host Happy Noon
Year, an early 10am event with craftmaking and fun for the whole family.
5. Orlando, FL
Orlando has a lot to offer as a city. You could surely enjoy any number of fun events at bars, hotels, restaurants, etc. But most people who are headed to Orlando are going there for one reason: Theme Parks.
Orland is home to a bevy of theme parks, each offering a wonderful New Year's Eve experience. The Walt Disney World Resort alone will feature events at the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Cirque Du Soleil, and so on. But then there are still Universal CityWalk with performance from Smash Mouth and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, SeaWorld Orlando with a musical show, and LEGOLAND which will be celebrating it's first ever New Year's Eve events. With so many choices for parents and kids alike, Orlando may offer the most wide variety of activities and events surrounding New Years than any other city on the list. Check out VisitOrlando.com
for more information.
4. Denver, CO
Yet another western city graces our countdown. Denver, much like the other large metropolitan cities we've covered has you covered whether you want a fun night out or a family friendly event.
The Mile High City highlights their offerings with the New Year's Eve Fireworks both at 9pm and midnight in downtown. Again, if you have little ones who aren't likely to stay up until the late hours, the Noon Year's Eve activities at the Children's Museum will offer a wide variety of activities to keep you kids entertained in safe and fun ways. For a truly unique experience, try visiting the Denver Zoo for Zoo Year's Eve. But if you've set aside a hefty budget for this annual event, you'll want to go to Denver's Grandest New Year's Eve Party at the Grand Hyatt. Premium alcohol, a buffet, champagne toast, party hats and favors, are all included in this superb event. Visit Denver.org
for more information.
3. Walt Disney World/Land
Yes, it's not a city, but there's no denying the sheer amount of searches done to find out more about what Disney offers for this night of nights.
We touched on the offerings of Disney World earlier when we covered Orlando, FL, but what about Disney Land in Anaheim, CA? Well, the park system there is not as extensive, but you can rely on the parks remaining open extra hours and, of course, a fireworks display to rival the ones happening all around the globe.
2. Dallas, TX
The second Texas city to appear on our countdown (everything is bigger in Texas) just misses the top spot. Dallas is a massive metropolitan area (especially if you add in Fort Worth). And with so many people. they need to have a lot to do and a lot of ways to celebrate. This website
will get you started, but it only scratches the surface. Consider Dalls Finest New Years Eve at The Overground Project (Open Bar) or Take Flight 2012 at the Aloft Hotel in Downtown Dallas. The trans-siberian orchestra will be at the American Airlines Center if you want to take in a performance you'll never forget and the New Year with a Gala Tasting Dinner will be hosted at Charlie Palmer at The Joule for all of you food lovers out there.
1. New York, NY
As if there was ever any doubt? This is the grand-daddy of them all. There is no better place to be than the capital of the world and watching the ball drop in Times Square.
But, there are actually so many other options of things to do, that, I can't even begin to do them justice. Visit http://newyearsevecentral.com/newyork
to find our more.
I'm serious, I would get writer's cramp if I even tried to write just a few examples. It is all over the top, it's all the best, and it's all happening in New York, NY.
