Friend or Relative Turning the Big 4-0? Or Maybe Even 50 or 60? Throw them a Humor Filled Over the Hill Birthday Party!
May 17, 2012
We’ve all heard the expression “Better over the hill than under it”. If you have a loved one approaching a milestone birthday of 40, 50, or 60 help them celebrate their age instead of lamenting the passage of time with a fun Over the Hill birthday party theme. With so many wonderful Over the Hill birthday party supplies you’ll be able to plan a fabulous party that will leave them looking forward to the year ahead instead of dreading it.
The traditional age for starting with the Over the Hill theme is 40, but any of the big “0” birthdays after 40 is a great opportunity for an Over the Hill party as well. As long as you are confident your guest of honor will take the theme in the fun loving manner it is intended and not be insulted, the Over the Hill party theme can be a huge hit. However, if there is any chance the guest of honor will be insulted, you might want to consider picking another theme!
Once you’re sure the birthday boy or girl will appreciate an Over the Hill party, it’s time to start planning! Throwing a surprise party is always fun if you can pull it off, but you’ll need to enlist the help of the guest of honor’s spouse, closest friend, or coworkers to help get them to the party and to keep them in the dark.
Kick off your party planning by choosing a locale for your event. If you don’t want to have it at your house, what about holding the party at the guest of honor’s favorite restaurant? Not only will you not have to worry about the cooking, but if you’re having a surprise party all you have to do to get your friend there is tell her you want to take her out for a birthday dinner!
After you’ve chosen the location, invite the guests by sending out Over the Hill invitations. If you’re planning a surprise party, you’ll have to get help on the guest list to make sure you don’t overlook anyone important when planning the guest list. If possible, try swiping your friend’s cell phone and take a look at their contact list! Be sure to include on the invitation that the party is a surprise so no one spills the beans to the birthday girl or boy and ruins the surprise.
For a fun birthday gift, send blank scrapbook pages along with the invitations and ask the guests to create a scrapbook layout that reflects one of their favorite memories of the guest of honor. It can be something as simple as a photograph glued to the page, a picture of the two of them together, or a letter reminiscing about the good times they had. Have them bring their scrapbook pages to the party, where they can be mounted into a book. Not only will this make a great gift, but after the party is over, the birthday boy or girl will have a wonderful keepsake that will remind them of their past and all the people that love them.
Decorating for your Over the Hill party is a snap. You can do something as simple as draping all the tables in solid black tablecloths and using black cutlery with our Over the Hill plates. Or, if you’re looking for something a little more festive, add as many Over the Hill latex balloons as the room can hold! Tie them off with silver ribbons for a more elegant touch. Add our Over the Hill letter banner and your party room is ready to go!
Another fun decorating choice is one of our custom Over the Hill birthday banners. Personalize the Over the Hill banner with a special birthday message for the guest of honor. And for an extra special touch, tie a permanent marker to the banner and have all the guests sign it with a special birthday message. At the end of the night, you’ll have another special memento for the guest of honor to take home!
And, as a final touch, make the birthday boy or girl feel extra special with their own Birthday Queen tiara or Over the Hill black fedora. That way they’ll stand out from the crowd and everyone will know who to give those birthday spankings to!
Planning an Over the Hill birthday party is a great way to show your loved one how much you appreciate them and what a great sense of humor you have! With a little creativity, this simple theme can be pulled off in a tasteful way that won’t insult your guest of honor and will leave everyone with wonderful memories of the evening!
