Celebrate your Child's Next Birthday Party with a Little Help from Dora the Explorer!
June 15, 2012
Turn your child’s next birthday party into a fiesta of fun by making it a Dora the Explorer party! This theme is popular with toddlers and with just a little creativity and some great Dora the Explorer party supplies, it can be easy to plan and execute.
Invite your child’s friends to come over for a Dora adventure with homemade invitations! Cut out purple backpacks to match Dora’s and print all your party details on a removable sheet of paper that can be tucked into the backpack through a small slit at the top. Or, create a map leading to your home. X marks the spot where the fun will take place!
Set the stage for adventure and exploration by transforming your party space into a jungle where the kids can begin their adventures with Dora. Use jungle scene setters to cover the walls and add some stuffed animals or jungle animal add ons to add to the untamed wild atmosphere. Or, for a less expensive option, use green streamers to create the appearance of trees and vines. Create a Rainbow Bridge, like the one featured in many episodes of Dora’s television show, out of construction paper on one of the walls or on the floor leading from one room to another. Once your party space is transformed, you’ll be ready to plan your Dora party adventures!
Start by setting up a scavenger hunt for the kids. Hide party favors like Dora stickers, small stuffed animals, or other toys somewhere in your yard. Then, create a map leading to two or three clues that will help the kids find the prize. Before they embark on their adventure, hand each child a backpack, just like Dora’s, stocked with binoculars, a compass, and a canteen to keep them safe and happy along the journey!
Another fun activity for your Dora party is to play Guess What’s in Backpack. Hide an item, like a toy or household item in a backpack and have the kids try to guess what’s hidden in Backpack just by feeling the outside of the bag and asking you questions about what the item might be used for. Whoever guesses the item first will get a prize.
And what party would be complete without a piñata? Not only will the kids love taking a swing at your piñata and collecting the goodies you’ve stuffed inside, but it’s also a great way to get out some of that extra energy their sure to have stored up!
If you want to serve more than the traditional cake and ice cream at your Dora the Explorer party, consider serving Mexican-themed dishes inspired by Dora’s Hispanic heritage.
- Set up a taco bar where kids can fill up on their favorite fillings and toppings.
- For a less messy option, consider a taco salad bar or nacho bar.
- Serve rice and black beans.
- Cheese quesadillas are a big hit with kids!
Whatever foods you decide to serve, be sure to stock up on Dora paper plates and napkins to serve your treats on! For simple table centerpieces, you can use our Dora & Friends centerpieces.
As your Dora party draws to a close and your guests are leaving, hand out Dora loot bags filled with small treasures that will delight your guests. Animal shaped bracelet bands, Dora lip gloss, butterfly tattoos, and Dora stickers are all great, and inexpensive party favors.
