Looking to Switch it up this 4th of July and get away from the Traditional Barbeque? Try an Elegant 4th of July Party!
June 19, 2012
Fourth of July usually conjures images of backyard barbeques, checkered tablecloths, hot dogs and burgers on the grill, and plenty of potato salad and apple pie. But if you’re tired of the same old picnics and want to try something different this year, consider a more upscale event for your 4th of July party this year.
Streamers and paper stars may be just fine for a get together with the neighbors, but to set the mood for an elegant and sophisticated 4th of July party, you’ll need to bring some glimmer and shine to your decorations. Your backyard can be transformed into the perfect party space for your event with some creativity and the right 4th of July party supplies. You can still decorate for your event with a patriotic flair without using the same simple streamers, paper flags, and 4th of July cutouts everyone else on the block will be using. Start stringing white twinkle lights in your trees. They may not be noticeable in the afternoon, but as the sun starts to set, they’ll look beautiful in the evening glow. Add some red lanterns lit with LED candles and hung at varying heights to add extra ambiance. Set your tables with crisp white tablecloths topped with our stars and stripes velvet table runners. White chair covers topped with red and blue bows will add an extra touch of elegance as well. Create simple centerpieces using Gerber daisies in red and blue mixed with white baby’s breath arranged in canning jars, which can be found in the grocery store or at your local thrift store. Search your favorite discount and craft stores for votive holders in red, white, and blue and cover your railings, side tables, counters, and other surfaces with them. Mismatched holders will add visual interest to your party space, so grab any votive holders you can find that will fit with your patriotic color scheme! If you want to place them on surfaces that will be within reach of little hands, consider using LED candles to prevent potential burns.
While burgers, brats, and baked beans are all great for your backyard barbeque, when you want to have an elegant 4th of July party, you’ll need to put a little extra energy into your menu to ensure it is up to par with the mood you’ve worked so hard to create. You can still use the grill for your dishes, but use a little creativity and serve your guests something new and delicious instead of the old standards they might be expecting. Instead of grilling burgers and hotdogs, try serving grilled seafood. Salmon, tilapia, shrimp, and scallops are all delicious when cooked on the grill! Use non-stick tinfoil on your grill to ensure you don’t lose any pieces through the grates though. Marinate chicken breasts in a mixture of pineapple juice, Italian dressing, and Worcesteshire sauce overnight and then cook them on the grill. This is also a great marinade for steaks. Prepare grilled vegetables, like eggplant, zucchini, asparagus, and corn to serve along with your main course. Grilling them will give the vegetables a wonderful crispy texture and smoky flavor. If you want an upscale version of the traditional apple pie, try serving apple parfaits, a light lemon cake, or even an assortment of cupcakes and petit fours.
Set your bar up for your 4th of July party with champagne flutes and wine glasses that will still look classy but will also cut down on your clean up time! And instead of cracking into the usual keg of beer, serve up festive 4th of July cocktails that fit in with your patriotic color scheme, like Cosmopolitans, blue martinis, or white wine.
Your guests may be surprised to find you’re not just tossing out some festive patriotic paper goods and the usual 4th of July party fare, but when they see the thought and care you’ve put into planning your elegant Fourth of July party, they’ll be thrilled to attend and may decide that celebrating our country’s independence with a little sparkle and shine, instead of the typical laid-back fare is the only way to party!
