Enjoy the Last Few Days of Summer with a Labor Day Weekend Ice Cream Social Party!
August 22, 2012
Celebrate the end of summer with a Labor Day get together that will tempt your taste buds and beat the summer heat! Invite your friends over for a Labor Day sundae party! While the dog days of summer are winding down and the crisp, brisk fall weather is just around the corner, no one can resist a good old fashioned ice cream sundae and Labor Day is the perfect time to have your friends and neighbors over for a sundae party. Less involved than a full out barbeque but still fun for everyone, a Labor Day sundae party is the perfect way to end the summer and welcome in the fall!
Start your Labor Day sundae party in style by inviting your friends over with personalized patriotic ice cream invitations. Let your guests know all the details, including time, date, location, and be sure they know you’ll be providing plenty of delicious ice cream for your event.
Obviously you’ll want to do more for your party than throw out basic vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and sprinkles, so you’ll have to put some thought into your decorations and menu. You can decorate for your Labor Day party with either traditional Labor Day party supplies in patriotic colors and themes featuring red, white, and blue, or you can get a little more creative with your decorations and go with an ice cream shop theme. Drape your tables in pretty pink tablecloths that coordinate perfectly with our fun ice cream centerpieces. Add some color to your counters with fresh flowers, like carnations and daisies, in white and light pink, in glass sundae glasses, which you can find at kitchen supply stores, or possibly at the local thrift store. Add some pink and white balloons and you’ll have a fun, festive atmosphere your guests will love!
Set up a sundae toppings bar on the kitchen counter or on a buffet table where your guests can view all their options and prepare their concoctions easily. Have plenty of ice cream flavors available in addition to the basic vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. Fun alternatives include mint, coffee, butter pecan, rocky road, and peanut butter. To keep your ice cream flavors from melting, fill a couple of metal tubs with ice and store the ice cream containers in these. This should keep the ice cream soft enough to scoop but prevent it from turning into soup! Transfer your toppings into clear glass bowls to give the table a sense of uniformity and provide spoons in each topping. Aside from the traditional nuts, hot fudge, caramel, cherries, and whip cream, expand your choices with fun options like crushed candy bars and cookies, marshmallows, butterscotch, coconut, fruit sauces like strawberry, blackberry, and raspberry, cinnamon, coffee beans, sea salt, and candied nuts and fruits. And if you don’t want to spend half your night scrubbing hardened fudge and ice cream off your fine china, you might want to consider dishing out the ice cream into plastic bowls that you can toss once your party is over! Or, you can dress up your dessert and serve up your ice cream in ice cream shaped cups that your guests can take home as party favors at the end of the evening.
Your Labor Day sundae party is a great way to top off the long three-day weekend. Since you won’t have to slave over a hot grill or put hours into the preparation, you can still enjoy the nice break from the work week or attend other parties and events and your guests won’t feel your get together is a huge time commitment. Your ice cream social can have your guests in and out in just a couple of hours, making it the perfect way to end a long, busy summer and have one last hurrah with your friends! So invite your friends over for a quick party, serve up your favorite flavors of ice cream and get ready for a great time that will have your guests licking their fingers in delight!
