NHL Lockout Got You Down? Cheer up with an NHL Themed Lockout Party!
November 20, 2012
While the NHL Lockout may have put a damper on your plans to celebrate hockey season, that doesn't mean you need to cancel your annual hockey-themed party this year! You just need to shift your focus a little and adapt your plans for the big night. Instead of turning the TV on to the big game, gather together with your fellow hockey fans for a chance to complain about the current lockout and reminisce about the best moments of past seasons. Who needs a new season to celebrate the game you love? Hockey fans can celebrate with an NHL lockout theme party even if their favorite team is still locked out of the game for a few more weeks. Just because the teams aren't playing doesn't mean you can't be partying!
Send out your hockey personalized invites and let your friends know that even though the hockey players won't be taking the ice on schedule, your NHL party will be happening right on schedule! If you normally have your NHL party on your favorite team's opening night, schedule this year's party for the same night as last year's. Even though you won't be able to watch your favorite players suit up and take on their rivals, you and your fellow hockey lovers will still have a great time spending the evening partaking in some NHL themed festivities!
Deck out your party space with plenty of NHL party supplies. Whether you want to focus on your favorite them or just go with a general hockey theme, there are plenty of fun decorations to choose from. Adorn your tables with a fun NHL table cover that will transform a boring buffet table into an indoor hockey rink! Add some NHL plates and coordinating cups and napkins to complete the look! Add a few NHL swirls to spice up your party space and you're guaranteed a festive party atmosphere! For a fun, although possibly a little inappropriate twist, you can find pictures of your favorite players and slap some prison bars or chains and locks that you've cut out of black construction paper over their images. Once the lockout is over, you can have another party where you ceremoniously release them from lockdown!
Stock your NHL themed table with plenty of party appropriate snacks. Go for a concession stand feel and serve all those foods hockey fans clamor for at the game. Set up a nacho bar, complete with tortilla chips, cheese sauce, ground beef, jalapeño peppers, diced onions, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, and salsa, where guests can build their own plate of nachos to enjoy! You can also go with the traditional concession stand fare of hot dogs, complete with all the condiments served in large jugs just like they have at the stadium! Hot pretzels, peanuts, pizza, and, if you're really ambitious, funnel cakes are also great choices that will make your guests feel like they're right at the stadium! And, of course, you'll need to have plenty of beer and soda on tap.
Since you won't be able to watch the game thanks to the NHL Lockout, you'll have to use a little creativity to keep your guests entertained at your NHL Lockout party. Instead of showing this season's opening game, you could show highlight reels from past seasons, gag reels featuring blunders and bad plays featuring rival teams or hated players, or a recap of the last Stanley Cup. Another option is to organize your own game of street hockey (be sure to grab a child size hockey set so the younger guests can get in on the fun!) or even host an air hockey tournament.
While it's disappointing that you won't be able to cheer on your favorite NHL teams during the lockout, you can still share your passion for the sport with your fellow fans and there's no need to cancel your annual opening day party. And, if a miracle occurs and the lockout ends in time to salvage the season, you can celebrate with an even bigger NHL themed party! But until that happy day when the players are allowed back on the ice, you'll just have to settle for a NHL Lockout Party that satisfies your urge to party with your fellow sports fanatics and gives you a little hockey fix to tide you over.
