December 10, 2013
Every winter, children across the country look forward to those two words most parents dread: Snow Day! While kids look forward to a day off from homework, books, and teacher’s dirty looks, parents start to panic because it means they have to find a way to keep their children amused for the whole day without rotting their brains with endless television and video games. Have no fear, Windy City Novelties is here with a Top 10 list of snow day essentials that will help you build a survival kit you can pull out any time the kids are stuck indoors as the winter wind howls and the snow blows and blusters.
.) If the kids are acting like animals, hand them some Animal Print Return Balls to help them work out their energy! These return balls feature assorted animals prints and allow the kids to learn some fun tricks that should keep them busy.
.) Send the kids to a room with nothing breakable and toss them our Suction Balls. These 2-inch balls feature suction cups all over the perimeter, allowing them to stick to practically any surface. Just don’t be surprised if your ceiling is quickly covered with these suction balls and the kids are ready to move on to the next activity!
.) While it may be too snowy to head outside for a game of catch, with our Assorted Sports Balls the kids can play catch inside without having to worry about breaking windows and television sets! Measuring 2.5 inches, these squishy sports balls are the perfect size for little hands.
.) Introduce your child to a classic toy from your childhood with our Retro Paddle Ball. This paddle ball features a retro scene on the paddle that will delight children of any age as they learn how to play this game and show them why it has been popular for so many years.
.) Another classic toy that should have a place of honor in your Snow Day Survival Kit is one of our Wooden Yo-Yos. Kids have loved yo-yos for generations and for good reason! Use this 2.5-inch yo-yo to show your children all the tricks you used to know and impress them with your mad skills as they try their hand with their yo-yo!
.) Bubbles may seem like a summertime toy, but who says they have to be put away once the snow starts to fly? Hand out a bottle of bubbles to the kids, send them out to the porch, and have them see what happens to bubbles when the weather is cold and frightful!
.) Let the kids send secret messages to each other with the help of our Magic Ink. This ink will magically disappear just a few minutes after the kids write their message, so their secrets will always be safe from prying eyes!
.) Hand out a few Assorted Pinball Games and keep the kids out of your hair for at least a few minutes. Always popular with the kids, these mini pinball games may be distraction enough to keep them off the video games for just a few more minutes.
.) Add a small science lesson into their day with our Hatching Dinosaur Eggs! Just drop these capsules into a glass of water and watch them grow into a miniature dinosaur! Once their dinosaur has “grown” let the kids do a little online research to learn more about their creature.
.) There’s one more thing you’ll need to add to your survival kit, but this one is more for you than the kids. And no, it’s not a bottle of wine! Our Smiley Face Stress Balls are a great way to keep your stress at bay while the kids are running wild and driving you just a little nuts. With its cheerful yellow smiley face and squishy texture, this stress ball is sure to keep you calm the entire time you—and the kids—are trapped at home.
