Host your very own Mardi Gras Party!
February 10, 2014
The season of Mardi Gras is upon us! If it is not feasible for you to attend this year’s celebrations held in New Orleans—or any other city where Mardi Gras is widely celebrated—host a party of your own! Invite friends over for a night of drinking, eating and celebrating. You can also host a Mardi Gras themed event at your bar or restaurant! Here are some tips and ideas on how to throw a fun and festive Mardi Gras celebration:
During the earliest Mardi Gras celebrations, masked balls were held throughout the season of Mardi Gras. They were typically held by secret societies, and only the most prominent members of society were invited to these extravagant balls. When hosting your own Mardi Gras party, make your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, etc. feel special by inviting them to your party with Mardi Gras invitations. Be sure to tell them to dress up in their best Mardi Gras attire: anything purple, green and gold.
Decorate your party space with purple, gold and green decorations. Incorporate Mardi Gras beads into your Mardi Gras décor, as they are one of the most popular party items for Mardi Gras celebrations. Tie them together to make a type of Mardi Gras garland to hang on the walls or in your entranceway, or use them as part of your table decorations.
Place something in your entranceway to welcome guests, such as a Mardi Gras door curtain, or create your own custom Mardi Gras banner to let visitors to your bar know the Mardi Gras drink specials!
Hang a few Mardi Gras decorations from your ceiling, such as Mardi Gras swirls containing a variety of Mardi Gras shapes, or hang Mardi Gras fluffy tissue decorations. You can also place decorating pieces on the walls, including Mardi Gras glitter masks or Mardi Gras musical shapes.
Foods and Drinks
Mardi Gras is all about feasting, so be sure to serve your guests a delicious traditional New Orleans meal. Cook up some Shrimp Gumbo or Jambalaya, and incorporate crawfish into a side dish or appetizer. Make cleaning up after dinner easier by using Mardi Gras themed paper plates and napkins.
Cover your dining or buffet table with a Mardi Gras table cover and add a few table decorations. As previously mentioned, sprinkle Mardi Gras beads along the table, or place Mardi Gras doubloons along the table, instead. You could also place a Mardi Gras centerpiece or two on the table, or use Mardi Gras light up balloons as your centerpieces.
Mardi Gras Costumes and Accessories
Don’t forget to dress up in Mardi Gras attire! Many Mardi Gras revelers wear masquerade masks, jester hats or king hats. Wear one of these in addition to your Mardi Gras beads. You could also hand out Mardi Gras masks to your guests as party favors.
Add other Mardi Gras costume accessories to your Mardi Gras party attire. Choose from a variety of purple, green or gold hats, wigs, glasses, bow ties, and more. You can also choose to dress up in a full Mardi Gras costume, such as a purple and green jester or a Mardi Gras king.
