We use this for my son's birthday party. It looks very close to the real thing so that was awesome!!! While getting ready to pull the strings we had the birthday boy jokingly hit the pinata with the plastic light sword and the base/jaw portion of the pinata ripped from the upper helmet portion with a single not-hard hit. I am not sure if it would have held up pulling the strings. It was not all the way full of candy so it shouldn't have been that it was too heavy. Anyway the kids didn't mind and the visual effect of the mask was just perfect for our party.

I might recommend it depending on what my friend was going to use it for, but in general I would not due to it seeming flimsy for being a pinata vs just a decoration.
