How to Throw a Winning Gameday Get-Together!

How to Throw a Winning Gameday Get-Together!

09/27/17

Whether you like it or not, the fall season is quickly approaching. Although there are many activities to do in the fall, nothing pairs better with the fall than football. Soon enough Sundays will change from “Lazy Sundays” to “Football Sundays,” and NFL jerseys, t-shirts and sweatshirts will become part of the weekly wardrobe.

It may depend on the match up, but football fans cheer on their favorite team in a number of ways. Some may actually attend the football game, while others are watching from their favorite sports bar. Some may be watching in the comfort of their living room, surrounded by friends or family members. If that’s the case for you, you’ll want to make sure your guests are entering a football-friendly atmosphere with game day snacks that are sure to score. Use these party decorating and entertaining tips to host a game day watch party in your home or bar.

If you’re having guests over to watch the Sunday game, you won’t need to decorate much. You’ll want to set out a food table and possibly a bar area. You should also have a banner, wall decals or some decorative item of your favorite team—especially if the next-door neighbor, who is a fan of the opposing team, is coming. These NFL team decorations will add to your party décor, as well as your bragging rights when your team takes the win!

You’ll want to display all of your party snacks in a fun and festive way, as this will be the second most important part of your get-together—watching the game is the most important, of course! Use an area that is close to the viewing area, or set up a folding table in order to make it easily accessible. Start with a table cover—use a green football field table cover or a football-printed table cover. You can also use a solid color table cover, but make sure it is one of the colors of your favorite team. You can then use the other team color for your paper goods, such as paper plates, napkins and cups.

Add a few decorations to your buffet table. A field goal post will make for a cute addition at the end of your table. You can also place football themed centerpieces around the table for added flare. Serve some of your party snacks in football dishes. You can place them on top of green tissue grass mats, as long as the dishes aren’t hot. Place paper plates, napkins and eating utensils out so your guests can help themselves. Use NFL team paper plates to make your neighbor’s blood boil. He’ll have no choice but to eat off of them!

Cook up some traditional football tailgating snacks. Have a brat and hotdog bar with a wide selection of condiments and toppings so your guests can make their perfect hotdog. Make some nachos with your own special twist (maybe pulled pork nachos?). Buffalo chicken dip always seems to be a big hit at football parties, and is easy to make!

Now that you have got your table set up, it’s time to add decorations to the rest of your entertainment area. As previously stated, you need something that represents your team. Hang a team logo pennant banner along your back wall as a sort of backdrop, in your entranceway to welcome guests, or drape it along your food table as seen in the image. You can also place football helmet decals on the walls. For a cool lighting affect, hang football paper lanterns from your ceiling. Or, if your football get-together is being held during the day or in a room with windows, the lanterns can simply add to the party décor.
