What is FootGolf?

What is FootGolf?

09/27/17

FootGolf is a new hybrid sport that is sweeping the nation. It is the perfect combination of the sports golf and soccer. The objective of the FootGolf is the same as that of golf: the player must get the ball in the cup with the least amount of hits. However, instead of using a golf ball, you use a regulation #5 soccer ball; and instead of using a golf club, you use your feet to kick that ball. The cup you are trying to kick the ball into measures 21” in diameter. FootGolf is played on a golf course, the course is just a bit smaller than a golf course. At most FootGolf courses, you can choose to play a game of 9 holes, or a game of 18 holes.

The sport of FootGolf is regulated through the Federation for International FootGolf (FIGF), and the American FootGolf League (AFGL) is the governing body for the sport in the U.S. It’s unsure where or how the sport of FootGolf originated, but it appears that the emergence of FootGolf in the U.S. is largely attributed to the lack of revenue for traditional golf from young individuals. Golf courses across the U.S. are beginning to incorporate the sport of FootGolf into their golf courses or clubs in hopes it will attract young individuals to the course and increase revenue.

If you have an interest in this sport, or are a little curious about it, you can do a little research online to find a course that offers FootGolf nearest you. If you have a little experience with the sport already, and want a new challenge, try adding a nighttime spin on it. You’ve heard of Night Golf, now try Night FootGolf! Night FootGolf is FootGolf played at night using a light-up soccer ball. This version of the sport if for the curious and the daring, as well as those who just like to have a little fun!

Practice playing Night FootGolf in your very own backyard using the same course supplies used for Night Golf. Set up a mini Night FootGolf course in your backyard using a Night FootGolf kit. The kit includes everything necessary to set up a FootGolf course in the dark, such as LED and glow course markers, LED tee markers and glow accessories. These items will allow you to see the outlines of the course at night, as well as the cup, so that you can aim you kick accordingly.

In order to set up a mini Night FootGolf course, use your glow yardage markers to outline the outside of the course, or “fairway” in golf terms. They have stakes at the end of them that you can easily stick into your yard. You can then use smaller glow sticks to define the “green.” Instead of digging a hole in your yard, use LED target hoops to create a cup. In order to make the LED target hoops larger, you can detach them and then attach additional LED target hoops to build one giant one. Finally, use LED tee markers to signify where players are to “tee off.”

Optional: Use glow accessories, such as glow necklaces, bracelets, as well as LED accessories, as items for the players to wear. This can be just for fun, but is also a safety precaution. If other players are wearing light-up accessories, you can see them in the dark and avoid kicking or hitting in their direction.
