Napkin folding: The Goblet Fan
May 07, 2009
One of the easiest and simplest ways to bring a touch of elegance to a dinner party or wedding reception is to employ a unique napkin fold for the table.
This is a great way for party planners to incorporate another element to the dining table that can make the event memorable for their guests.
An easy and eye-catching fold is the Goblet Fan, where the napkin is placed in a glass goblet to resemble a small Chinese fan.
To do this, lay the napkin flat on the table and fold it in half. After that, fold the napkin accordion style, making each fold approximately 1 inch in width. Once completed, fold about 3 inches of the napkin up and place that part of the napkin in the goblet first. This should allow the napkin to naturally fan out from the mouth of the glass.
Some people have ironed their napkins prior to this fold, but it isn't necessary. One important tip is to have the goblets close by so you can immediately place the folded napkins into them.
