Emerging wedding trend: Green ceremonies
May 06, 2009
In an effort to reduce their impact on the environment, many couples are finding ways to make their wedding and reception as eco-friendly as possible.
Also, many couples are finding that by incorporating green aspects into their nuptials, they are saving money in the process, which may be music to the ears of some given the current state of the economy.
Some wedding planning professionals have called this trend the "wedding of the future," since the interest for it has been increasing in recent years.
Some ways to cut down on costs and to be environmentally sound is to allow Mother Nature to be part of your ceremony. Instead of purchasing expensive flowers, get married in a park or at your local botanical garden.
More technological couples may want to send save-the-date and registry information by email to save on paper. Though wedding invitations are traditionally mailed, one can use recycled paper and soy-based ink.
Finally, avoid using plastic silverware when possible for any meals at the reception. If this can't be avoided, research recycled or biodegradable alternatives.
