Making a wedding reception socially responsible
May 19, 2009
While in recent years wedding receptions were seen as a massive party that ended with people getting favors or the centerpieces, some couples are opting to use the time to bring awareness to a cause that is important to them.
In some cases, couples are making donations to a certain charity or organization and giving each guest a card about their donation.
Wedding planner Lisa Light told NJ.com said this is an ongoing wedding trend and is becoming just as popular as making the event environmentally friendly.
"[Making a wedding socially-aware] can encompass everything from the resort they choose for their wedding or honeymoon destination to giving back in lieu of reception favors," Light said.
In the article, some couples said they opted for the change because they felt guests tend to throw out wedding favors after the reception.
People interested in bringing a more socially aware atmosphere to their reception may want to do some research online and find an organization or charity the bride and groom can agree on.
If the couples have a personal reason for choosing a certain issue, it may be a good idea to briefly explain it in the card given to the guests.
