Summer party trend: Smaller portions
May 22, 2009
With Memorial Day ushering in the unofficial start of summer, party planners may be looking to host a backyard party in the near future.
However, there appears to be a new summer party trend that is calling for smaller portions of food, which may run counter to someone's image of a plate stacked high with hot dogs and hamburgers.
But that doesn't mean you can't serve those backyard party staples.
Mary Rembelski of Canapé Cart Catering told the Detroit Free Press more people are keeping portions of their favorite food on the small side.
"We do a lot of sliders, as they are still popular with parties," Rembelski said. "Any big burger you can make small and put on a small bun."
This trend means party planners can serve more appetizers or side dishes at their event, which may lead to more variety for guests. Think skewered chicken and beef in bite-size pieces as well as grilled vegetables that have been cut up.
Serving smaller portions is also a way to make your party more health-conscious, which has been another rising trend this year.
