Party food for all seasons
June 05, 2009
It's easy to plan a themed party, but how is one supposed to choose the appropriate food to serve?
Some fall back on timed and tested favorites, such as chips and salsa, mini quiches, pasta salad, cupcakes and so on, but it might be an exciting idea to plan party eats to best fit the season.
Guests will love this creative approach to food, and the party host will relish serving something a little different.
If you're not the world's best cook, many larger stores have bigger quantities of food at lower prices so all hungry party goers will be fed.
For summer themed parties, consider hitting your local farmer's market. After all, June is national fresh fruit and vegetable month.
Serve lighter fare - chopped veggies with hummus, or a Greek salad will be refreshing for guests to eat on a hot day. If the party involves a barbecue, consider grilling peaches for a curious dessert, to be served with ice cream.
In the winter, many people want to feel comfortable and full, and some often lean towards carb-laden dishes.
Italian cuisine won't break the bank and will provide a hearty meal. Make your own sauce for added flair and flavor.
Hearty soups and stews such as lentil soup or Irish stew will also warm hungry guests.
